The Journey of Simply Eden Tallow:
Simply Eden Tallow was conceived long before the company officially started in 2022. The real journey began when we were expecting our first child in 2019. It was during this time that I began to scrutinize the ingredients in the products I used daily, realizing how many items were labeled "safe" yet contained harmful chemicals and toxins. Nothing propels you to research and care about what goes in and on your body more than pregnancy and the responsibility of someone else’s well-being.
As I dove deeper into health and wellness during my pregnancy, my passion for informed consent was born. I quickly realized that no doctor or government could care for my baby as deeply as my husband and I could. I understood that the decisions we made needed to be based on weighing the risks and benefits carefully, choosing what worked best for our family’s unique circumstances.
I first began using tallow in 2018 after a friend recommended it for my dry skin. At that time, I was by no means fully immersed in the world of natural living, but I was starting to develop a desire to learn about cleaner products and more natural approaches to skincare. Perhaps it was my Cherokee and Choctaw Native American roots giving me a drive to lean toward a more natural lifestyle. After having my first child in 2020 and with the state of the world at the time—if you know, you know—we decided I would not return to work and would instead become a stay-at-home mom. Little did we know that doors would also close for my husband’s work, leading us back to the town where we first met in Northern California.
It was here that a dear friend opened a local shop with natural, locally made products and a bulk section for DIY ingredients. I often visited her, as we both shared a passion for non-toxic living. Those visits sparked a new dream in me—the idea of creating my own products and serving others. About a year later, my friend decided to move and was selling her business. My husband suggested, "Why don’t we look into buying it?" That was the first time I shared my passion with him, but I was uncertain, and we had no funds to buy a company, and the last thing we needed was more debt.
Around this same time, I had started making my own tallow. When I first started to make my own tallow, I was buying grass-fed suet from a local butcher, this is what was best for what we could afford at the time. My husband then said, "Why don’t you sell this?" Again, I am not naturally visionary and would have been happy supporting and serving someone else’s dream over my own. Also, at that time, things were falling apart—doors were closing, and we were praying because we didn’t know how we would pay our rent for the next month, let alone start a business.
I did know that if I made my own tallow to sell, I wanted it to be as unprocessed and unadulterated as possible—just the way God intended. I was committed to using only the highest quality ingredients and, after testing some essential oils in initial batches, I decided instead to only infuse organic herbs into oils and tallow. At the time, I didn’t know of any other companies doing this. Since then, the market has become much more saturated, which it's great to see that there are some other companies moving away from essential oils as well! I also didn’t realize at the time that we would decide never to use any essential oils in our products—but again, my love of learning and being informed led me to understand that, in terms of informed consent, essential oils in daily skincare carried more risks, whereas botanical infusions offered more benefits.
Fast forward, I was making my own products and giving them to friends to try. Meanwhile, my husband was looking into turning it into a business. We brainstormed names, and his sister helped mockup logos. I truly didn’t think any of it would happen, but I didn’t want to discourage my husband’s vision. So, we prayed, trusting that if this was meant to be, it would unfold. Our faith was central to our decision-making, and we wanted to create products that were as pure and natural as possible. That’s when we thought of the Garden of Eden—when everything was good and pure, just as God intended. After researching and seeing what names were legally available, we landed on Simply Eden Tallow to best represent our heart in a company name.
Despite the financial uncertainty of the time, we trusted God to provide. And, as always, He did. One day, we literally received a cashier’s check in the mail that was more than enough to start our business and support us as we figured out our next steps. God is so good and always faithful!
Thus, Simply Eden Tallow was born. It came from my passion for informed consent and non-toxic living, coupled with my husband’s belief, faith, and practical steps to legally establish our business. Together, we built a faith-based family business dedicated to offering the highest quality products at an affordable cost.
